Position

Adjunct Librarian – Fall 2025 (Part‑time) at Muskegon Community College, Muskegon, Michigan.

General Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for reference desk services, supervising student workers, and providing bibliographic instruction and cataloging support. Hours are variable and may include weekends, evenings, and day‑time shifts as needed to meet library demand.

Responsibilities

• Weekend and evening assignments as scheduled.
• Answer reference questions from students, faculty, staff, and community members regarding research needs.
• Assist students in the research process: topic selection, evaluation of sources, and documentation of references.
• Provide information literacy instruction to classes.
• Assist with cataloging using OCLC and Sirsi WorkFlows.
• Supervise student workers in the absence of their supervisor.
• Make recommendations for book purchases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• MLIS or equivalent from an ALA‑accredited institution.
• Commitment to community college philosophy and information literacy.
• Familiarity with research databases, OCLC, and Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive environment.
• Strong commitment to customer service.
• High integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the college.

Mental and Physical Demands

• Detailed work, student contact, deadline oriented, problem solving.
• Emergency situations, confidentiality, continuity of work.
• On‑call availability, handling multiple priorities, working alone and with others.
• Physical tasks include standing, walking, sitting, light lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and routine office duties.
