The University of South Florida Libraries Tampa Campus is seeking an energetic, well organized, and enthusiastic individual to serve as Special Collections Catalog Librarian. Reporting to the Associate Director of Collections & Discovery, and in collaboration with the Director of Special Collections, this role will coordinate all aspects of Special Collections cataloging and metadata management for USF Libraries. The Special Collections Catalog Librarian creates, enhances, and maintains original and complex bibliographic and authority records for a wide range of special collections materials in various formats. The incumbent will collaborate closely with colleagues across functional units and throughout special collections and USF Libraries to support discovery and access of special collections materials. USF Libraries seeks applicants with an interest in and/or experience engaging with evolving descriptive metadata models and standards. The successful candidate is expected to engage in research, publication, and service leading toward promotion. This is a 12‑month, non‑tenure‑track library faculty position.
Please note, this position is Open Rank. A candidate will be hired as an Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Librarian with an appropriate salary amount based on their qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of special collections cataloging projects including developing project goals and timelines, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, tracking statistics, and compiling reports.
Collaborate with Special Collections Curators, Librarians, and subject specialists to coordinate cataloging activities across all USF Libraries campuses.
Train and supervise the work of all library personnel performing special collections cataloging duties.
Perform original cataloging and provide guidance on complex cataloging issues for Special Collections.
Develop, maintain, and document standards, policies and procedures for special collections cataloging.
Coordinate all authorities work for USF Libraries, including the creation of Name Authority Files for contribution to the Florida NACO Funnel.
Act as liaison between Cataloging and Special Collections personnel to provide quality metadata for special collections.
Work collaboratively with other departments and campuses to provide streamlined and consistent cataloging.
Perform database remediation and troubleshooting activities.
Assist the Metadata/Cataloging Unit as needed.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA‑accredited institution.
Professional librarian experience in accordance with university guidelines.
Evidence of professional growth through publication, association activities, or other contributions to the field.
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Librarian.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years experience cataloging in an academic setting.
Experience working in special collections cataloging.
Working knowledge of RDA, AACR2, DCRM, and DACS Rare Book cataloging standards.
Working knowledge of various metadata schemas including MARC, EAD, and BibFrame.
Knowledge of LC Classification, LCSH and other controlled vocabularies.
Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE.
Experience working with Name Authority Files (NACO).
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, administer and coordinate projects; and work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse and changing environment.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to read or decipher non‑English languages.
