Overview

Director, Public Relations and Marketing (IN-HOUSE ONLY) position at Coast Community College District. This position is open to internal permanent and temporary Coast Community College District (CCCD) employees to apply. External candidates are not eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the work of the Public Information and Marketing department, coordinating services that engage staff and the community, proactively address public affairs, information, and marketing to prospective and current students and alumni.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and implement programs of marketing, student recruitment, and marketing/media relations serving internal and external audiences of the College.
  • Facilitate and create the College’s image and branding and establish a social media presence; facilitate outreach programs to ensure presence at college and community events, conferences, schools, and general meetings.
  • Advise the President and other administrators on communications matters by producing, writing, and editing materials, advising on media relations, and preparing information for public consumption.
  • Advise on communications for sensitive public issues to position the College appropriately with media and the public.
  • Direct the College’s media relations activities, including contact with media, preparation of press releases and other written communications, and providing responses to media inquiries.
  • Direct, prepare, and review press releases, public service announcements, photographs and other media materials to interpret the College to internal and external publics.
  • Coordinate information gathering from divisions and units for use in news releases, including collaboration with athletics for enhanced sports coverage.
  • Develop, edit, and direct production of communications and informational materials (fact sheets, brochures, articles, reports, news releases, advertising) and broadcasting via television and websites.
  • Develop and implement campaigns to enhance visibility and enrollment, including publicity to engage diverse student and business audiences.
  • Comply with District policies and procedures including ethical standards.

Qualifications

Knowledge And Skills

  • Professional knowledge of public information, public relations, and community outreach principles and practices.
  • Extensive experience in marketing communications and public information.
  • Strong knowledge of media relations, student recruitment strategies, and higher education promotion.
  • Budgeting techniques and financial management knowledge.
  • Management and supervision principles, including performance measurement.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software (spreadsheets, word processing, databases) and presentation tools.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills to influence internal and external customers, make presentations, conduct training, and manage others.
  • Mathematical skills for business calculations and analysis; ability to work with diverse personalities and facilitate collaboration.

Abilities

  • Ability to perform essential responsibilities and develop annual goals and objectives for programs and promotions.
  • Ability to learn and apply education code and College policies; build productive relationships with staff, community, media, and partners.
  • Ability to direct press releases and materials; demonstrate sound judgment and creativity in applying strategy.
  • Ability to write professionally, proofread and edit accurately, and prepare presentation-quality reports.
  • Ability to train and lead others and manage multiple projects; willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Education And Experience

Typically requires a Master’s degree in Business, Communication or Journalism or related field. A Bachelor's degree with eight years of related experience may be considered. Prefer experience in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising and Social Media or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses and Certificates

  • Valid driver license.

Working Conditions
