Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to document and standardize Warehouse Operations procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process documentation, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate operational tasks into clear, user-friendly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Statements of Work (SOWs). This role will require on-site observation, interviews with staff, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure all procedural steps, decision points, and system interactions are accurately captured and visually represented.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review existing Warehouse Operations SOPs, SOWs, and work instructions to assess completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Interview warehouse staff, leads, and supervisors to understand detailed workflows, including exceptions and process variations.
  • Observe operations on the floor to validate process steps, timing, tools used, and safety procedures.
  • Create, update, and format SOPs that clearly define end-to-end processes, roles, responsibilities, and quality checkpoints.
  • Develop supporting documentation such as process flow diagrams, checklists, visual aids, and annotated images.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to company standards for formatting, version control, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with process owners, engineering, and quality teams to ensure alignment and sign-off on finalized documents.
  • Maintain a central repository for all finalized SOPs and supporting files.
  • Provide recommendations for documentation improvements or gaps identified during review.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience creating technical documentation, SOPs, or process documentation-preferably in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex operational activities into clear written and visual documentation.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Lucidchart, or equivalent.
  • Strong interviewing and observation skills with attention to operational detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:
  • Experience with ISO, Six Sigma, or Lean documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of ERP/WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, or similar).
  • Ability to capture and edit process photos or screen captures for inclusion in SOPs.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or Confluence for document management.

Deliverables:
  • Comprehensive SOPs for all key warehouse processes (receiving, put-away, picking, shipping, returns, rework, inventory control, etc.)
  • Updated SOW documents aligned with current operational practices.
  • Process flow diagrams and visual guides integrated into documentation.
  • Executive summary highlighting key process improvements or documentation gaps.
