About the Department
The Department of Communication Studies at Franklin College of Arts and Sciences employs 21 full‑time faculty and a few part‑time members. It offers a PhD program with approximately 40 graduate students and an undergraduate program with about 350 majors. The department is renowned for research in rhetorical studies, interpersonal communication, intergroup communication, persuasion, and health communication.
Position Summary
This full‑time, tenure‑track Full Professor position in Health Communication anticipates a start date of August 1, 2026. Candidates who are advanced Associate Professors with potential for promotion to Full Professor upon hire will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Conduct original, high‑impact research.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in research methods, communication theory, and the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Provide service to the department and university, including committee work.
- Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, especially with UGA’s School of Medicine and School of Nursing.
- Contribute to curricular innovation in Health Communication or broader Communication Studies.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related field.
- Tenure‑ready record demonstrating a strong publication agenda, external funding, and scholarly impact.
- Experience in health communication preferred.
- Commitment to teaching excellence and student mentorship.
- Evidence of service to the scholarly community.
