Role and Responsibilities

The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a full-time, Full Professor position in Health Communication with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. Responsibilities include:

  • Carry out research;
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in research methods, communication theory, and the candidate’s area of scholarly expertise;
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students;
  • Perform service to the department and university;
  • Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration across a comprehensive university; foster collaborations with UGA’s School of Medicine and the planned School of Nursing;
  • Contribute to curricular innovation focused on Health Communication or Communication Studies more broadly.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: A PhD in Communication Studies or a relevant field. Candidates considered for the Full Professor rank must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the promotion-tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia and must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire. Relevant/Preferred education, experience, licensure, and/or certification are described; consideration for advancement to Full Professor is noted for candidates who are Associate Professors with potential for promotion.

Preferred/Additional: An accomplished social scientist with internationally recognized expertise in Health Communication, a well-developed and active program of research, and a strong record of securing external funding.
