Overview

UNICEF works worldwide to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfil their potential from early childhood through adolescence. This role is located in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and is designed to promote awareness and support for children’s and women’s rights through a robust communication strategy.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain the country advocacy and communication strategy and work plan, including target audiences, messages and media mix.
  • Lead media relations: build and keep a contact list of journalists, coordinate press releases and events, and ensure rapid, accurate dissemination of information to media and partners.
  • Oversee networking and partnership activities, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as government, UN agencies, NGOs and private sector partners.
  • Plan and manage celebrity and special events to enhance the visibility of UNICEF’s programmes.
  • Support and implement UNICEF’s global communications priorities and campaigns at the country level.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization by communicating the impact of UNICEF programmes to potential funders.
  • Manage communication budgets, monitor expenditure and recommend optimisation of funds.
  • Develop and monitor communication performance indicators; conduct monitoring and evaluation activities and prepare reports on impact.
  • Build communication capacity within the UNICEF team and with external partners, providing training and technical support.

Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field; alternatively, a first university degree plus 2 additional years of professional experience may be considered for internal staff.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in communication, print, broadcast and/or new media; international and national experience; familiarity with emergency situations.
  • Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required); knowledge of Arabic (considered an asset).
