You will work in the State of Palestine (SoP) to uphold the rights of children to access services and protection, from early childhood through to adolescence. Your objective is to ensure that every child in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, regardless of background or circumstance, has an equal chance to fulfil their potential.
Key Accountabilities & Duties & Tasks
- Communication strategy: Develop, maintain and update the country advocacy and communication strategy and associated work plan. The strategy includes an environmental and stakeholder assessment; objectives; target audiences; messages and media mix; resources; specific actions, activities and products; monitoring and evaluation of impact; success and opportunity for improvement; and ongoing refinement.
- Media relations: Maintain a regularly updated contact list of journalists and media outlets covering print, TV, radio, and web. Execute press conferences and events, issue media materials, ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media, National Committees, NGOs, and the field, and develop, distribute and evaluate a variety of media materials.
- Networking and partnerships: Build and maintain a contact list of individuals, groups, organizations, and forums (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts). Collaborate with partners on joint projects and information sharing, and monitor, evaluate and share results.
- Celebrities and special events: Create and maintain a celebrities contact list. Organize celebrity engagement and special events, coordinate Goodwill Ambassador visits and media opportunities, and coordinate logistics.
- Global priorities and campaigns: Support UNICEF’s global communications objectives and strategies by developing country-specific materials and activities, ensuring inclusion of global priorities and campaigns, and coordinating with regional and headquarters focal points.
- Resource mobilization support: Mobilize communication capacity to support fundraising, gather content and coverage, and coordinate with relevant Focal Points.
- Management: Develop a work plan for communication activities, monitor compliance, plan budgets, manage resources, recruit and supervise staff, and ensure effective delivery and evaluation.
- Monitoring and evaluation: Establish baselines, monitor and evaluate communication performance indicators, prepare reports, and undertake lessons-learned reviews.
- Capacity building and support: Advise on media strategy and implications, support communication activities, build capacity of the team and partners, and assist the Programme Communication Officer in developing tools and strategies.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or an accepted equivalent with 2 additional years of professional experience.
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible work experience in communication, print, broadcast, and/or new media, including international and national work and familiarity with emergency situations.
Language Requirement
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language, preferably Arabic, is considered an asset.

Special Remarks
In the current evolving emergency context, this position will be based in Gaza where medical facilities have been negatively affected and individual chronic and/or serious medical conditions cannot be adequately addressed.
