Position Overview
LA County Library, one of the largest and most innovative library systems in the United States, is seeking a qualified individual for a Group II level community library position. The incumbent will have immediate charge of a community library or coordinate a regional specialized library service or department‑wide special service program.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff at a Group II level community library.
- Coordinate, develop and monitor the delivery of library services for a region, including youth and adult programming, summer reading, Internet services and emerging literacy initiatives.
- Evaluate and select materials to support the department’s collection development and budget planning.
- Oversee complex technical services functions such as cataloging, materials management, processing, financial control, contracts and vendor relations.
- Prepare reports, maintain records, interpret library policies, and serve as liaison with county/city officials, community organizations and educational partners.
- Provide instructional instruction in library technology and resources to staff and patrons.
Qualifications
- Option I: Master of Library Science from an accredited institution & 1 year of experience as a Librarian III in a Group III community library (≥2 professional staff).
- Option II: Master of Library Science from an accredited institution & 2 years of experience as a Librarian II in a Group IV community library (≥1–2 professional staff).
- Valid California Class “C” driver license or equivalent transportation method.
- Physical ability to stand, walk and lift moderate weights, perform repetitive tasks, and work irregular surfaces.
