Library Assistant, Connecticut State Community College Northwestern (WINSTED, CT)

The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on‑line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers’ advisory; and audio‑visual equipment lending. The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College’s learning and instructional goals, and may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field with up to two (2) years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience that would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

• Experience with librarianship functional areas.
• Experience with library patrons.
• Proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
• Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
• Strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two or more years of experience working in a library setting.
• Library experience working in an academic library.
• Experience providing circulation and technical services support in a library.
• Experience providing inter‑library loan services support in a library.
