Position Summary

The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include: circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on-line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers’ advisory; and audio-visual equipment lending. The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College’s learning and instructional goals and may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions.

In addition, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; service on assigned committees and task forces; attendance at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings, which may involve evening or weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field with up to two (2) years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
  • Experience with librarianship functional areas.
  • Experience with library patrons.

Candidate must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience working in a library setting.
  • Library experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience providing circulation and technical services support in a library.
  • Experience providing inter-library loan services support in a library.

Starting Salary

Minimum Salary Range: $48,103‑$51,331 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications such as education and job‑related experience, and internal equity.
