Position Summary:

The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include: circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on-line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers' advisory; and audio-visual equipment lending.

The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College's learning and instructional goals. The position may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions.
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Librarian, Director of Library Services, or other administrator the incumbent is accountable for providing useful and helpful services to the library and its patrons in support of the College's learning mission through effective performance of essential tasks in one or more of the following functional areas, as assigned:
  • Circulation.
  • Interlibrary loans.
  • General public service.
  • Technical services.
  • Periodicals processing.
  • Audio-visual equipment lending.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree, with preference for Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Experience with Librarianship functional areas.
  • Experience with library patrons.
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. Experience with reflective, interactive, culturally responsive pedagogical teaching techniques. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of related experience
Salary:

$34.06 hourly.
