About the Team

The Customer Experience (Marketing) team works to showcase our brand through the lens of expertise and love. They work to provide a personalized experience for our consumers backed by best‑in‑class, data‑driven marketing capabilities. The Customer Experience team focuses across 4 departments including Marketing, Creative, Communications, and our Loyalty & CRM team. Everyone brings their own point of view to create a unique experience for the pets and pet parents.

At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

About the Job

As a Senior Graphic Designer, you’re a go‑to collaborator who partners closely with designers, copywriters, and marketers to create compelling visuals that move fast and make an impact. You handle multiple projects with ease and deliver with speed and consistency. You take feedback with a growth mindset, adapt quickly, and always keep the bigger picture in mind. You're not just checking boxes—you’re thinking strategically and pushing the work to be better.

You’re fluent in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, XD, and Mac OS, and you know your way around file prep, formatting, and production. Animation skills are a plus, and you’re always exploring ways to expand your creative toolbox.

You’re proactive, resourceful, and ready to grow. Whether collaborating with a team or working independently, you show up with ideas, enthusiasm, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality creative—every single time.

Who do you report to? Senior Creative Manager

Responsibilities

  • Concept, design, and execute for all PetSmart’s brand across multiple platforms including but not limited to: web/app, emails, social media, gift cards, some packaging and print.
  • Carry out Visual Design Strategy through PetSmart’s brand identity and Loyalty program guidelines to execute engaging creative.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members and clients to produce creatively sound solutions.
  • Be a trustworthy and reliable teammate.
  • Be super quick on your feet, thrive under tight deadlines and high‑pressure situations to produce amazing work that is consistently on‑brand.
  • Proactively and bravely provide insight to new technology and design trends.
  • Create and manage all‑sized projects and prioritize multiple requests at any given time; strive to hit all deadlines.
  • Build strong relationships, effectively communicating with other designers, CDs, VP, project managers as well as clients.
  • Present/sell your work while clearly addressing the creative reasons for your design decisions.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of the creative objectives and needs of internal clients.
  • Own your work from start to finish, know every facet of the PetSmart Loyalty program, and have a deep desire to drive more engagement and loyalty member acquisitions.
  • Handle post‑production photography work as needed; have a good grasp on how photography works into your design through choosing the right shot, cropping for the space and telling the best possible story.
  • Contribute to all stages of the creative process: from concept, through execution and some production, to delivery of final files.
  • Proactively bring new and well‑designed ideas to the forefront to elevate and expand our brand message.
  • Ideate and execute with little oversight and iterate on your work based on feedback from creative leadership and stakeholders.
  • Understand communication to your peers, your manager and Creative Ops; a mandate for success.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Senior Graphic Designer/Art Director with 6+ years professional design experience.
  • BS/BA in graphic design or related field. Not required, but preferred.
  • Well‑versed in industry‑standard creative applications: Figma, XD, Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office applications; some experience in print & production is a plus.
  • Must have an amazing portfolio that shows extreme talent in typography, animation, layout, use of photography and color, and exceptional creativity across all platforms.
  • Must have impressive animation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills; meet commitments and demonstrate excellent follow‑through.
  • Ability to present to others and sell an idea; possess the courage to take on more challenges and present your work to others.
  • Exhibit professionalism, flexibility and composure under stressful situations.
  • Strategic and critical thinker with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Self‑motivated, proactive individual with a positive, energetic attitude.
  • Ability to take feedback and act upon it with urgency and positivity.
  • Experience working with Brand Guidelines and Creative Briefs.
