Summary King County is in search of an Electronic Communication Specialist (ECS) who will perform highly skilled technical work as an expert in In-Building Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), land mobile radio (LMR) technology and communication systems, radio subscriber template creation and design, repeater communications and other electronic equipment, including conventional and repeated base stations, portable, mobile and fixed radios.

Reporting to the Radio Communication Services Manager, the ECS will be responsible for utilizing computer software and electronic test equipment perform system diagnostics, interpret results, and affect rapid repair of electronics equipment and support equipment for DAS, LMR and other communication systems and equipment. This position will also be responsible for radio template design and creation for 800 MHz subscriber radios on the Puget Sound Emergency Radio Network (PSERN), King County's campus radio systems and other individual or system radio subscriber units. The individual will use a combination of logic, analysis, experience, and wisdom to make sound, timely decisions to solve problems determining required systems support and repair action needed on mobile, portable and base station radios, DAS and LMR systems and equipment including legacy VHF and UHF radio system equipment, emergency power systems and DAS support equipment.

As an Electronics Communications Specialist, you will need to relate well to all kinds of people representing Radio Communications Services in building solid customer relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and governmental agencies. You will be comfortable working alone on tough assignments, using a variety of ways to get things done while acting with the customer in mind. Encouraging collaboration, you will be seen as a team player who is a direct, truthful individual and can be counted on to hold things together during tough times.

Job Duties

Serve as technical expert for land mobile radio systems, DAS, LMR radio subscriber template design and creation, and other electronics equipment, including repeated and conventional communication systems. and supporting computer systems and networks. Utilize Test Instruments and in-building coverage mapping software to test first responder in-building public safety RF signal coverage in accordance with Federal, State and Local fire code regulations. Utilize computer software to perform system diagnostics, interpret results, document changes in equipment layout and wiring schematics, give technical direction to staff to affect rapid repair of electronics equipment and provide support. Represent Radio Communications Services in communications with other internal and external governmental agencies. Work with customers, vendors, and the Radio Shop to determine required support and repair action needed on DAS and LMR equipment, systems and sub-systems, including computer systems and networks. Work of technical staff; maintains accurate records concerning work hours, labor hours, equipment preventative maintenance and repair and modifications of equipment and facilities. A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in two-way land/mobile radio repair and operation. A minimum of three to five years of demonstrated experience in trunked radio systems Successful completion of an AA degree, Vocational training program in Electronics, or Military Electonics training involving communications equipment, analog and digital circuitry, and test equipment usage OR an equivolent combination of work experience and training The ability to pursue tasks with energy and drive even when times are tough The ability to work effectively in a team environment gaining the trust and support of peers, encouraging collaboration, keeping confidences and admitting mistakes The ability to make solid decisions looking beyond the obvious solutions to a problem, approaching the work by making connections among unrelated notions The ability to concentrate on the more important priorities, using his/her time effectively The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, gaining their trust and respect and following through to ensure their needs are met The ability to remain cool under pressure and hear people out even if you disagree. Having a range of skills and interpersonal approaches and knowing when to use what with whom The ability to communicate messages that have the desired effect and to write clear documentation Required Licenscing FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) required or must be attained within 12 months of the start of employment A valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Desirable Qualifications Distributed Antenna System vendor certification or equivalent Experience with Motorola ASTRO 7.x System Technician Experience with Motorola ASTRO radio subscriber templating

Supplemental Information Working Location:

The work associated with this role will be performed onsite. This position may be assigned field work at various King County locations. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Work Schedule:

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime-eligible. The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This position will participate in a 24 hour on call rotation. Work Environment:

The work environment is primarily indoors in a workshop environment, and includes frequent on and off-road driving, with minimal exposure to health and safety hazards. This position is physically demanding requiring, Lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling throughout the duration of the shift.
