Calla Cane is a design studio where interior architecture, design, and product are consciously intertwined to create intuitive, meaningful spaces. We partner with homeowners, architects, and builders to deliver full‑scale interiors—from custom millwork and cabinetry to furnishings, finishes, and art. CallaCane We also operate a lifestyle shop in Rowayton, CT, with a curated selection of decor and artisan goods, reflecting our design sensibility and bringing product directly into the home. As part of our team, you'll help bridge conceptual thinking with hands‑on execution, ensuring design integrity from initial vision through installation. Role Overview
As a Mid‑to‑Senior Interior Designer at Calla Cane, you will lead or co‑lead key residential projects, contributing both creatively and technically. You’ll take ownership of design phases (concept through installation), collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and art/design vendors, and guide more junior designers. You will also help maintain and elevate our studio’s aesthetic and process standards. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design development and documentation phases (schematic design, design development, construction documentation) for interior projects Produce space plans, elevations, millwork/ cabinetry drawings, details, finishes boards, lighting and furnishing layouts Oversee and present conceptual design materials (mood boards, 3‑D renders, sketches) to clients and the principal Collaborate effectively with architects, contractors, engineers, and trade partners to integrate interior scope into the broader build Specify furniture, lighting, fabrics, materials, art, accessories, and sourcing, and manage procurement and logistics Oversee and troubleshoot site execution, field issues, and design intent during installation Mentor and support more junior staff (e.g., Junior / Intermediate Designers), giving feedback and helping them grow Participate in studio‑level strategy, design research, and process improvement (e.g. maintain standards, best practices, design library) Occasionally support shop operations (merchandising, client visits, product sourcing) and trade partnerships, when relevant Qualifications / Skills
5+ years of interior design experience (residential and/or high‑end interiors) Strong design vision and aesthetic sensitivity; ability to develop compelling concepts Proven ability in construction documentation, millwork detailing, and technical coordination Proficiency in design software: AutoCAD, Revit or SketchUp (or comparable), Adobe Creative Suite, and 3‑D rendering tool(s) Strong project management skills: scheduling, budgeting, coordination with multiple disciplines Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable engaging with clients and contractors Knowledge of procurement, product sourcing channels, logistics, and installations Leadership and mentoring experience or desire to develop that Detail‑oriented and organized, with problem‑solving mindset in the field Strong collaborative spirit, flexibility, and willingness to roll up sleeves in a small/design‑forward studio Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have
Experience with high‑end residential projects Familiarity with interior architecture and integration of bespoke millwork Understanding of sustainable / artisanal materials and craftsmanship Previous experience working in a studio that combines design + product retail Local/regional knowledge of CT / NY design and trade ecosystem What You’ll Gain
