Position Summary Do you thrive on storytelling, media, and strategic messaging? We’re seeking an ambitious communicator to join our public affairs and strategic communications team, helping major sectors and leading associations craft stories, build reputations, and connect with key audiences.

Essential Functions

Support the Public Affairs division in developing and executing strategic communications programs, including media relations, social media, digital campaigns, content creation, and storytelling.

Assist in crafting press materials, media pitches, talking points, and social content to elevate client visibility and influence key audiences.

Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and stakeholders, amplifying client messages across media channels.

Monitor and analyze media coverage, policy developments, and industry trends to inform messaging, content, and campaign strategy.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging and creative content are strategically coordinated across all platforms.

Assist in executing media and digital campaigns, helping clients communicate clearly and effectively to target audiences.

Serve as a key liaison with association committees, Boards, and key stakeholders through phone, email, video, and in‑person interactions, ensuring timely and professional communications.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

2–4 years of professional experience in public relations, strategic communications, or public affairs, ideally within a PR or public affairs agency supporting multiple clients and industries.

Proven experience in media relations, content development, digital strategy, and social media management, with a track record of securing coverage, engagement, and influence.

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft messages that resonate across channels and audiences.

Experience building and nurturing relationships with journalists, influencers, and key stakeholders to amplify client narratives.

Skilled at developing and executing integrated communications campaigns that combine traditional, digital, and social channels.

Strong strategic thinking, creativity, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Familiarity with policy, industry trends, and the intersection of public affairs and reputation strategy is a plus.

Creative and strategic thinker with intellectual curiosity and an interest in staying abreast of client industry trends.

Reliability to maintain an established schedule, manage time and priorities, and meet commitments and deadlines.

Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage through change and transition.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with poise, tact, and diplomacy.

Physical Demands This position operates within an office environment. Non‑physical tasks include keyboard work, telephone calls, and attending meetings. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Hybrid Work Environment: Employees located within commuting distance of a Kellen office are required to come in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; additional days may be required.

Extended Work Hours: This role may require more than 40 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and travel for conferences or special events.

Office Equipment Usage: The role routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Travel Requirements Travel may be necessary up to 5–10% of the time, by air, car, or rail.
