Minimum Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
2+ years of professional writing and web content development experience.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging, and brand-aligned content for digital audiences.
Experience managing content within WordPress, Drupal, or similar CMS platforms.
Familiarity with web design principles, accessibility standards (WCAG), and SEO best practices.
Strong understanding of UX and mobile-first design principles.
Excellent collaboration, communication, and project management skills.
Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations.
Understanding of brand platforms, messaging frameworks, and editorial style guides.
Experience with Google Analytics, GA4, Siteimprove, or similar tools.
Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and structured content management.
Familiarity with project management tools such as monday.com or Asana.
Knowledge of AP style and editorial best practices.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
Duties and Responsibilities The Marketing Content Specialist: Web Marketing serves as the primary content and web marketing partner for UNC Charlotte's college websites and academic program content website. This role combines strategic thinking, creative storytelling, and technical web expertise to craft clear, engaging, and brand-aligned digital content that supports the University's enrollment and branding goals.
The specialist will collaborate closely with colleges, departments, and University Communications teams to plan, write, and optimize academic web content that is user-centered, search-friendly, and accessible, helping prospective students to easily discover and understand UNC Charlotte's academic offerings.
Develop and write marketing-oriented web content for college websites and the academic programs website that is clear, concise, and aligned with UNC Charlotte's brand voice and tone.
Translate academic offerings into compelling digital content that resonates with prospective students and supports enrollment strategies.
Plan and organize web content in partnership with academic units, aligning with user journeys, site architecture, and the University's centralized information structure.
Apply technical and UX best practices for web writing, SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and mobile-first design to ensure optimal user experience and discoverability.
Manage and update content within WordPress and Drupal CMS platforms, using templates and structured content fields to maintain consistency and accuracy.
Collaborate with web developers and designers to ensure content layout, navigation, and visuals support storytelling and usability goals.
Leverage analytics tools, like Google Analytics, to assess content performance and make data-informed improvements.
Support the University's multi-phase website redesign by assisting in content migration, quality assurance, stakeholder consultations, and documentation of content governance standards in alignment with the updated information architecture.
Provide guidance to campus partners on writing for the web, maintaining accessibility, and aligning with University web policies and editorial guidelines.
Collaborate with colleagues across University Communications to support integrated marketing campaigns and cohesive digital storytelling.
