Our Shannon Staub Library has an opportunity for a tech‑savvy, customer‑focused Adult Services Librarian. Our award‑winning library system offers extensive collections where people of all ages can find their hobbies, their histories, their music, art, and culture. In this role, you will have a wide range of professional duties covering the full scope of library services, as well as assisting with our creation station, where patrons can work on anything from 3D printing to using an edible printer. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy.
  • Promote understanding and use of the library, its technology, and resources by presenting individual and group training programs.
  • Assist customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to agencies outside the library.
  • Keep abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.
  • Aid at service desks and to other sections as needed.
  • Represent Sarasota County and the library/library interests to library users and within the community.
  • Prepare reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional displays.
  • Analyze and identify service population needs, developing and directing plans to meet those needs.
  • Network with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.
  • Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contributing to decision‑making and the evaluation of progress.

Schedule & Work Hours

  • Full‑Time, 40 hours per week.
  • All county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP).
  • – OR – Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve months of hire.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in a library environment.
  • Skill in using various electronic devices, including, but not limited to Kindle, Nook, tablets, and iPads and imparting this knowledge to customers of all ages.
  • Ability to train/coach patrons in the use of technology.
  • Subject to passing substance screening: This position is subject to passing a pre‑employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

Pay & Application

Starting Pay: $53,456.00 annually.
