About the Position

The Mohave County Kingman Library is seeking an enthusiastic Library Assistant I to serve the public and support library programs. The role is primarily public‑facing and may include occasional public speaking at outreach assignments.

Working Schedule

  • Monday through Thursday
  • Tuesday through Saturday

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage files and records, including entry into filing and data systems.
  • Prepare standardized reports and statements, and compile data for statistical reports.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks such as answering phones, responding to routine information requests, assistance with patron forms, and document filing.
  • Prepare library borrower cards, assist in maintaining patron files, and distribute informational materials.
  • Assist with collection development, inventory, shelf maintenance, and search for misplaced or missing books.
  • Check materials in and out, maintain circulation files, reserve lists, hold notices, and delinquency notifications.
  • Provide patron instruction in library tools and reference resources, and assist in creating bibliographies and informational brochures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility.
  • Assist in training new coordinators and volunteers, and plan and present programs for various age groups.
  • Drive and maintain the bookmobile, oversee stocking and cleaning, and support interlibrary loan processes.
  • Participate in special programs, committees, and general library operations as required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and establish associated files for clerical processes.
  • Prepare library borrower cards and assist with patron files.
  • Assist with shelving, content searches, and material circulation.
  • Assist patrons with reference research and information resources.
  • Maintain compliance with library policies and procedures.

Working Conditions & Requirements

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, and overhead reaching.
  • May require ladder or step stool use.
  • May involve operating the bookmobile and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of library experience.
  • Two (2) years of general clerical experience OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Special Job Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads.
  • Acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
  • Complete Mohave County Van Dynamics if assigned to Outreach Services or bookmobile driving.
  • Experience driving bookmobiles or large vehicles is preferred.
  • May work with seniors and very young patrons.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with library operations, procedures, policies, and common practices.
  • Strong English grammar, spelling, and arithmetic.
  • Proficiency in office equipment, computing, and library software.
  • Effective filing and information system management.
  • Independent work and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Excellent public service, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to comply with personnel policies and regulations.
