General Summary The purpose of this position is to assist faculty with the design and management of course and program delivery, ensuring quality instruction for students. The position will focus on faculty engagement, rubric-based quality assessment, and quality enhancement initiatives and projects.
Essential Functions
Serves as project manager for course development and redevelopment. Coordinates planning, design, and implementation.
Provides instructional design support to faculty. Assists in developing instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate integration of instructional technologies, and best practices. Recommends instructional methods and tools appropriate to course goals and outcomes, content, and learners for delivery of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
Provides thorough course quality assurance reviews, ensuring that courses are built according to standard design principles and guidelines. Ensures course quality by proofreading, and editing courses at multiple stages of development, documenting required changes.
Trains faculty in the application of accessibility and usability standards, requirements, and laws in course design to ensure that all instructional technologies used support learning and are universally accessible; assists and supports faculty in the development and redesign of course content that is universally accessible and compliant with Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Serves as administrator of the learning management system and as primary contact for faculty and student assistance and escalates issues to the appropriate staff or vendor as needed.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
Position is on-site at Mercy College in Des Moines, IA. Relocation and sponsorship are not available.
Master’s degree in instructional design or technology, curriculum and instruction, education or related field preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of two years’ experience in instructional design will be considered.
Demonstrated experience developing and designing face to face, fully online, and hybrid/blended courses.
Demonstrated experience working with learning management/online learning platforms.
Instructional design experience in higher education preferred.
Multimedia production experience preferred.
Three years’ teaching experience in higher education using online technologies preferred.
Demonstrated ability in creation and delivery of a variety of training approaches preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories preferred.
