Have previous experience working with customers face to face. Moderate ability level with Microsoft Office 2010 products and general computer software and web browsing skills Have previous library experience, either via past job or volunteering (preferred, but not required). Six-months/one year of advanced study or training past high school or equivalency Be available to work day, evening, and weekend hours - including Sundays Be able to navigate basic computer functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, internet browsing, and be able to learn Library's computer systems with simple training Be bilingual (preferred but not required). What does the job look like?
Checks-out and renews materials to patrons. Assists patrons with questions regarding library policies and services, and works to resolve patron problems, using good and appropriate judgment. Provides quick reference assistance with locating materials for patrons. Processes circulation reports (e.g. hold expired, hold-cancelled, pull-list, damaged, local missing). Assists patrons with library card applications. Processes all outgoing and incoming materials in a timely manner. Processes and shelves holds. Brings in outside bin. Inspects DVDs and CDs for appropriate items. Evaluates all damaged materials, cleans and makes minor repairs if able, deletes book from system if needed, and seeks guidance from Librarian for assessment of damage charge. Accepts payments for overdue, lost and damaged materials. Maintains detailed statistics of all patron interactions through Desk Tracker. Helps patrons with basic computer and printing questions. Makes, cancels and monitors study room reservations. Maintains order of new books in display area. Participates in community outreach programs to promote the library, assists with summer reading program, and represents the library at neighborhood meetings and community events. Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position. Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
