Overview
TCAH is seeking a mission-aligned and results-oriented Grant Writer to play a vital role in sustaining and expanding the organization’s philanthropic efforts. This individual will lead the research, development, writing, and submission of high-quality grant proposals to government agencies, corporations, foundations, and philanthropic institutions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned development professional with at least 5 years of grant writing experience, outstanding communication and research skills, and strong knowledge of nonprofit funding strategies and compliance.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Grant Writer will also collaborate across departments to gather program data, build cases for support, and measure impact. This role is central to advancing TCAH’s strategic priorities and fueling innovation across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Grant Research & Writing: Research, identify, and evaluate prospective institutional funders (public and private).
- Write clear, compelling, and tailored grant proposals, LOIs, concept papers, and reports.
- Manage a portfolio of grant applications and reporting deadlines; ensure compliance with funder requirements.
- Track and synthesize data, outcomes, and metrics to strengthen the case for funding.
- Collaborate with program, finance, and executive teams to gather information and develop budgets, narratives, and measurable objectives for proposals.
Development Operations & Fundraising Strategy
- Assist in the execution and evaluation of the Development Department’s fundraising strategy and KPIs.
- Support the creation and execution of multiyear funding pipelines aligned with organizational goals.
- Maintain internal grant files, calendar, and tracking systems to ensure timely submissions and reports.
- Support cultivation and stewardship of funders through briefings, updates, and impact storytelling.
CRM, Data Management & Technology
- Manage donor and grant records in the nonprofit CRM system (e.g., Instrumentl and Salesforce).
- Ensure data integrity and conduct routine database cleanup to optimize performance.
- Leverage CRM analytics and reporting tools to inform strategy and segmentation.
- Utilize prospecting databases and research tools (e.g., Foundation Directory Online, Grants.gov, Instrumentl) to enhance outreach and cultivation efforts.
Donor Engagement & Communications
- Draft funder letters, donor impact reports, and acknowledgement letters.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications staff on proposal visuals, infographics, and storytelling pieces.
- Assist with the coordination of donor engagement events, site visits, and presentations.
- Contribute to recurring appeal letters, stewardship campaigns, and fundraising collateral.
Collaboration & Partnerships
- Serve as a liaison between TCAH and grantmaking agencies, foundations, and public officials.
- Support the development of crosssector partnerships, especially those involving collaborative grant applications or joint ventures.
- Participate in community engagement activities to deepen TCAH’s visibility and relationships.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing and development in the nonprofit sector, with a demonstrable track record of securing public and private grants.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, CRM systems, and research databases.
- Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple projects with precision.
- Self-motivated with a passion for social justice, equity, and food security.
- Professional demeanor, discretion, and a commitment to representing TCAH with integrity.
