This is an exciting opportunity at the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to lead the agency’s marketing, social media, graphic design, digital and website development efforts. You’ll bring creativity, marketing prowess and a passion for Minnesota to lead this work and support staff in developing and promoting campaigns and managing DEED’s digital presence.

You’ll facilitate communications and marketing goals by serving as the point person for overseeing strategic planning for marketing, creative and digital strategies, branding initiatives and overall marketing activities for DEED. This position will oversee content generation through a variety of digital channels that promote an integrated marketing approach and communication strategy, and provide event and promotional support via marketing campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Work with staff to create print and digital materials and oversee DEED websites to promote Minnesota’s strengths and individual DEED programs. Work with staff to envision and execute a strategy to promote the story of DEED’s work and available resources for the people of Minnesota, and ensure the agency’s work has maximum impact locally and globally.
  • Oversee the development of an annual marketing plan and content calendar for the DEED brand. This will be done in coordination with the DEED Communications team, Economic Development staff, Minnesota Trade Office staff, Explore Minnesota, and other DEED senior leaders and program directors.
  • Execute on all marketing plans created. Identify new audiences; create plans and campaigns to reach them and execute on those plans.
  • Oversee the creation and publication of all marketing materials in line with promotional plans. Continually research current marketing, event, and advertising trends and incorporate effective tactics into promotional plans.
  • Oversee DEED social media sites. Supervise the marketing coordinator who handles social media strategies, campaigns and analytics. Provide oversight for gathering data about social media accounts, tracking and monitoring the success of digital initiatives and generating reports.

This position is telework eligible. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.

Five (5) years* of marketing experience encompassing creating, writing and editing responsive and engaging social media, email and newsletter content (including graphics and written content), templates and campaigns for multiple audiences, for websites and multiple digital and traditional channels, with at least two (2) of those years in a leadership/supervisory role.

*Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master’s degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively; strategically think, plan, develop, and implement marketing and communication plans; write for multiple audiences across multiple channels – marketing copy, social media posts, newsletters, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple staff and fast-paced timelines; operate efficiently; meet deadlines for web, graphic design, and marketing production; maintain multiple projects and handle frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to lead graphic designers to create effective digital and print deliverables; understand and implement brand standards as DEED’s brand manager.
  • Experience in coordinating multi-channel marketing campaigns across social media and digital platforms.
  • Experience in using Content Management System (CMS), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), audience segmentation, and remarketing for effective implementation of marketing plans.
