CGI Federal is seeking a Sr. UX Specialist Lead to join a collaborative, high-performing team focused on delivering user-centered design solutions that drive mission success. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast‑paced environments, with deep expertise in user research, interaction design, and usability testing. In this role, you will help lead a team responsible for collaborating with stakeholders to define business goals, conduct customer discovery sessions, and create artifacts such as conceptual models, journey maps, personas, and screen prototypes. You will also document user requirements and design recommendations to ensure alignment with user expectations and eliminate pain points.
This position is located in our Baltimore, MD office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable
Responsibilities
- Derive business processes, analyze user needs, and assist in requirements definition
- Elicit business goals and user needs through stakeholder engagement and discovery sessions
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary design team, setting priorities, assigning tasks, and ensuring high‑quality, timely deliverables
- Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers and researchers, providing guidance, feedback, and support for professional development
- Collaborate with program leadership to define UX success metrics and integrate user feedback into iterative design improvements
- Present design concepts and research findings to stakeholders and leadership, effectively communicating design rationale and user impact
- Create conceptual models, journey maps, personas and scenarios of use
- Develop and refine screen prototypes
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including developers, product owners, and business analysts—to ensure seamless integration of design into agile workflows
- Design and conduct formative user research tests
Required Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
- 6 years of experience in UX design, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role guiding design teams or cross‑functional project groups
- At least 6 years of experience documenting user requirements, screen designs, and design recommendations
- Minimum of 4 years of experience preparing and presenting findings and recommendations in both small and large group settings
- At least 4 years of experience designing and conducting formative usability tests in both formal and informal settings
- Proven experience leading UX strategy and execution across complex, multi‑stakeholder environments
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior designers, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team culture
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical topics and interface with the customer on a daily basis
- A digital portfolio of design work is required for consideration
Desired Qualifications / Non‑essential Skills
- Experience using Axure RP and Adobe XD for prototyping
- Familiarity with Pega and/or ServiceNow platforms
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments
- Understanding of responsive design
- Prior experience supporting federal government clients or working in a government consulting environment
- Solid understanding of Section 508 compliance and accessibility standards as they apply to digital design
- Additional UX Certifications such as UX Master Certification (NN/g) or UX Design Immersive (General Assembly) are a plus
Compensation
A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 – $194,000.00.
