Duties
Provide interpretation services to the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who is deaf or hearing‑impaired.
Deliver sign‑to‑voice and voice‑to‑sign interpreting among colleagues, customers, and constituents.
Gather information verbally and attend meetings or conferences with the counselor.
Schedule appointments in situations where communication difficulties may arise.
Assist in preparing written material for grammatical correctness and clarity.
Assist with walk‑ins and phone calls.
Handle interpreting requests and scheduling.
Be available for ongoing communication needs with the supervisor, co‑workers, and management team.
Perform other duties assigned by the VRC or office management team that benefit the counselor or office.
Minimum Qualifications
Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) or a passing score on the written portion of the RID certification exam.
Two years of experience providing sign‑language interpretive services for the deaf, or a rating of intermediate or above on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview conducted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
Additional Comments
Temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change negotiating units, affecting salary, insurance, and benefits.
Verification of certificate required at interview.
Requires 20 % in‑state travel.
