Pay Range

Base pay: $34.00/hr - $34.00/hr.

Duties

• Provide interpretation services to the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who is deaf or hearing‑impaired.
• Deliver sign‑to‑voice and voice‑to‑sign interpreting among colleagues, customers, and constituents.
• Gather information verbally and attend meetings or conferences with the counselor.
• Schedule appointments in situations where communication difficulties may arise.
• Assist in preparing written material for grammatical correctness and clarity.
• Assist with walk‑ins and phone calls.
• Handle interpreting requests and scheduling.
• Be available for ongoing communication needs with the supervisor, co‑workers, and management team.
• Perform other duties assigned by the VRC or office management team that benefit the counselor or office.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) or a passing score on the written portion of the RID certification exam.
• Two years of experience providing sign‑language interpretive services for the deaf, or a rating of intermediate or above on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview conducted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

• Temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change negotiating units, affecting salary, insurance, and benefits.
• Verification of certificate required at interview.
• Requires 20 % in‑state travel.
