This job is posted on a continuous basis and candidates will be reviewed the first week of each month for consideration. Stay attentive to email communications regarding panel interviews. The East Bay Regional Park District's Public Safety Department serves over 25 million annual visitors. Our area of patrol includes 73 parks over a 1,750 square mile area covering all of Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Our Police Department is a full service POST-recognized law enforcement agency with 71 sworn officers, including units such as Air Support, Marine, Equestrian, Special Enforcement, Investigations, and a 24-hour per day 911 Communications Center. Our Fire Department provides fire suppression, hazardous materials responses, search and rescue, auto extrication, emergency medical services, prescribed burns, and resource management. We work with neighboring agencies in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and provide emergency response services when called upon by CAL FIRE and the Office of Emergency Services. A Lifeguard Services Unit supports 15 environments including pools, lagoons, lakes, and coastlines. Our LS Unit offers public instruction on water safety, rescuing distressed swimmers, and first aid. Communications Dispatchers
to work at our Public Safety HQ located in Castro Valley, CA. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools. We’re Looking for Individuals Who Are

Under supervision, you’ll perform a wide variety of dispatch and routine, non-hazardous law enforcement functions in a non-sworn capacity within the public safety department, and you’ll perform related duties as required. Application Materials
Application materials for this position consist of four (4) required parts: A current East Bay Regional Park District application submitted online Completed supplemental questions A valid Typing Speed Certificate Proof of successful completion of ONE of the following: POST Entry-level Dispatcher Test Battery T-Score OR The CritiCall Pre-Employment Skills Test Typing Speed Certificate requirements: minimum of 40 net words per minute; must be dated within 12 months of posting closing date; must be from an accredited institution or public agency; must display required details. To enroll in tests, visit the Dispatch Communications Testing Registration site. Costs: POST T-Score $30; CritiCall $77. Dates and times are on the website linked above. Tentative date of onsite examinations includes skills tests; results submitted with application and best qualified review will be used in a roughly bi-monthly process. Performs tasks to effectively dispatch police, fire and park operations units, including receiving calls, transmitting radio messages, dispatching units, requesting ambulance or other services, monitoring radio frequencies, operating equipment, and supporting emergency responses. Responsibilities also include clerical duties and handling reports and records. Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade Experience:
Two years of recent, responsible work experience License or Certificate:
Valid California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record Knowledge of:
Police and fire dispatching, routine clerical operations Ability to:
Type 40 net words per minute; multi-task; prepare accurate reports; operate communication equipment; speak clearly; memorize information; meet physical requirements; spell correctly; learn laws and procedures; read maps; adapt to changing situations; follow instructions; develop working relationships Conditions of Employment
Work all shifts on a rotational basis (day, swing, graveyard) including weekends and holidays Pass a Level 3 background screening; willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays Wear a prescribed uniform Current First Aid and CPR certificates required during probation and continued employment Union Affiliation
POLICE ASSOCIATION: The Park District's Police Association (PA) represents this classification. Wages, hours, and terms are covered in a Memorandum of Understanding. The probationary period is eighteen (18) months. Application Process
