Overview
Product Design Director, Audit, Credit & Financial Risk Management (CFRM) and Enterprise Services Risk (ESR) is a leadership role within Capital One s Experience Design organization. The role leads the Audit, CFRM, and ESR portfolio, guiding a cross-disciplinary design team focused on safeguarding Capital One through support of critical platforms in credit and financial risk management, enterprise services risk, and internal auditing capabilities and processes. The team collaborates with enterprise Risk business partners, product and engineering teams, and business owners to push innovation and deliver high-quality user experiences that align with regulatory requirements and business goals.

Role Expectations
As a Director of the Audit, CFRM, and ESR team, you will lead a talented, cross-disciplinary design team and collaborate with research, Product, and Tech leadership. You will oversee high-impact, complex projects and define design strategy that informs the higher-level vision and aligns with business objectives. This is a people leadership role requiring prior managerial experience in building and leading agile, professional design teams. The ideal candidate will bring business acumen, preferably with experience in financial services or risk management, and a capability to drive strategic partnerships across the organization to sustain future design impact.

Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-disciplinary design team for the Audit, CFRM, and ESR portfolio, partnering with research, Product, and Technology leaders.
- Define and drive design strategy aligned to organizational vision and business objectives.
- Mentor, guide, and integrate a design team with business partners from inception to product delivery.
- Balance design quality with business outcomes, particularly in the financial services domain.
- Collaborate across portfolios, platforms, and lines of business to deliver coherent, high-value experiences.
- Present work to senior stakeholders, embedding design frameworks, data, and research insights to influence decisions.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience in a product design role
- At least 3 years of experience leading design teams
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in product design
- 5+ years of experience leading design teams
- Experience across product design, service design, design strategy, and content design
- Experience leading product design teams across UX and UI, strategy, content, and research from strategy through delivery to market
- Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing, and analytics leaders to shape strategy and roadmaps
- Experience working within a design system
- Proficiency with web and mobile technologies and platforms
- Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma
- Experience managing an interdisciplinary design team
- Proficiency in business case development and grounding decisions in business value
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across complex organizations
- People management and development skills

Compensation, Benefits & Additional Details
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries are listed by location and refer to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated. Locations and ranges include:
- McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Design
- New York, NY: $246,500 - $281,300 for Director, Design
- Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Design
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location, as reflected in the offer letter. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation (cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives). Capital One offers health, financial, and other benefits; eligibility varies by status.
