**Job Title**Police Communications Officer I**Agency**Texas A&M University - Central Texas**Department**University Police**Proposed Minimum Salary**$15.00 hourly**Job Location**Killeen, Texas**Job Type**Staff**Job Description**The Police Communications Officer I, under supervision, handles routine and emergency radio, telephone, and 911 calls for service following special or written instructions for transmitting and routing calls.This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). A CSA reports non-personally identifying information to the Department of Public Safety related to incidents that fall within the Jeanne Clery Act. Working knowledge of and completion of annual training on the Jeanne Clery Act is required.***Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer. The department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.*****Responsibilities:*** Receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls from the university community and general public and disseminates information via radio for all law enforcement and emergency personnel.* Monitors all telecommunications equipment including State and National systems.* Operates a Federal/State regulated computer system which accesses sensitive law enforcement records including Driver's license, vehicle registration, and criminal warrant and history information.* Monitors and responds to the University's video surveillance, alarm, TLETS/NLETS, and emergency notification systems.* Makes sure all communications equipment is well maintained and operable.* Maintains records and files; to include but not limited to computer aided dispatch entries, master name files, wants and warrants files, criminal trespass files, protective order files, computer criminal histories, TCIC/NCIC,TLETS/NLETS and any other computer data entries/files as required.* Assists with other UPD records, reports, and logs such as the documentation of UPD owned keys, and injury reports.* Issues case numbers and logs case numbers in the log book based on established procedures* Provides directions, information, and assistance to callers and visitors to the University.* Assists with the management and issuance of all university parking permits.* Ensures that documentation is maintained and accurate for record keeping purposes.* Enters and maintains parking registration information in the UPD database.* Participate as needed on university committees as a representative for the University Police Department.* Works collaboratively with other university departments as needed to support university operations.* Stays current and aware of all information pertaining to 911 policies and procedures.* Manages the key control for all campus buildings. Insures adequate number of keys are available and kept secure. Issues keys to appropriate individuals with the proper authority/paperwork. Maintains an accurate inventory of issued keys.* Monitors all surveillance cameras. Insures they are in working order and placed in the appropriate locations to insure proper security of building and routinely checks that DVR is recording video accurately and properly* Monitors all security and fire alarms and automatic door locks, insures all locks are in working order, and that the building doors lock/unlock at required times.* Issues all access cards requested by university employees, inputs photographs and authorizes access to building doors, removes, adds, or cancels door access on employees previously issues cards as requested.* Performs other duties as assigned.This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned.**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*** Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.* Ability to work under stress.* Ability to comprehend technical aspects of communications equipment.* Communication skills.* Keyboarding skills.**Minimum Education and Experience:*** High school diploma or GED.* Six months experience as a Police Department Communications Officer, law enforcement dispatch, or equivalent experience.**Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:** May require Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certificate.**Wage:** $15.00/hour**Hours:** Monday - Thursday; 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Friday; 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. Schedule may vary based on departmental needs, including rotating shifts, evenings, and holidays.**Supervision of Others:** This position generally does not supervise employees.**Work Location:** **This is not a remote position.
