Position Summary Our mission at Sam’s Club is to bring our members the merchandise they want most—combining quality, desirability, and unmatched value. As the Senior Director of Experience Strategy for Merchandising, Replenishment, and Product Development, you will spearhead the strategic transformation of how home office associates engage with the tools, processes, and workflows that power Sam’s Club’s merchandising and replenishment operations.

Base Pay Range $160,000.00/yr - $320,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

Embed a transformational vision at the intersection of business strategy and associate needs.

Translate high‑stakes design thinking into actionable business strategy.

Align multiple squads around a cohesive, long‑term experience direction.

Deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, adoption, and associate satisfaction.

Drive innovation through design thinking, ensuring key solutions improve replenishment accuracy, product placement, or decision‑making speed.

Define and Deliver Experience Strategy

Within your first 90 days, establish a replenishment and merchandising experience strategy for home office associates that is aligned with Sam’s Club’s broader member and associate goals.

Within 12 months, demonstrate measurable improvements in associate efficiency, tool adoption, or satisfaction based on this strategy.

Lead Through Directors and Squads

Manage and coach a team of Directors of Experience Strategy, ensuring each squad (business, product, engineering, experience strategists) is aligned to the overall strategy.

Within the first year, ensure all squads are delivering validated solutions that address high‑priority goals.

Drive Innovation Through Design Thinking

Facilitate strategic workshops with senior leaders and ensure squads are applying design thinking rituals in their initiatives.

By year one, key innovative solutions tested with associates improve replenishment accuracy, product placement, or decision‑making speed.

Integrate Research Into Strategic Roadmaps

Oversee research priorities across squads and translate findings into actionable strategies.

Within 6 months, implement a research‑to‑roadmap process ensuring that all squad initiatives are grounded in associate and business insights.

Leverage Enterprise

Partner with Walmart enterprise UX, Product, and Engineering teams to integrate Sam’s Club needs into enterprise platforms we leverage.

Deliver Results and Scale Impact

Oversee execution of squad portfolio projects, ensuring on‑time delivery, in‑club pilots, and scaled rollouts.

By the end of year one, deliver scaled initiatives that show documented business impact and strong associate adoption.

Strategic Portfolio Leadership: Ability to lead through Directors, set long‑term vision, and align multiple squads toward measurable outcomes.

Performance Orientation: Track record of delivering large‑scale initiatives tied to efficiency, adoption, or satisfaction metrics.

Design Thinking Expertise: Skilled at applying and scaling design thinking, from facilitating workshops with executives to embedding rituals in squads.

Associate‑Centered Mindset: Deep empathy for associates, with ability to transform insights into strategies that improve daily workflows.

Research‑Driven Decision‑Making: Proven ability to translate data and user research into long‑term strategies and roadmaps.

Cross‑Functional Influence: Ability to partner with executives across business, merchandising, operations, and technology to drive alignment and adoption.

Leader of Leaders: Experience managing Directors or senior managers, building strong leaders who can run squads effectively.

Storytelling & Influence: Ability to make strategies tangible, communicate with clarity, and inspire both associates and executives.

Retail/Operational Knowledge: Familiarity with replenishment and merchandising operations helpful but not essential.

Adaptability & Vision: Ability to anticipate future trends and ensure strategies are flexible across diverse associate groups.

Forward Thinking: Experience applying AI/agentive technologies to decision‑making and process optimization.

Minimum Qualifications

Option 1:

Bachelor’s degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area and 7 years’ experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area.

Option 2:

9 years’ experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area.

4 years’ supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Design certification (e.g., IDEOU – Foundations in Design Thinking Certificate).

Driving product development in a user experience area.

Master’s degree in UI/UX Design, Interactive and Visual Design, Product Design, or related area.

Related industry experience (e.g., retail, supply chain, eCommerce, healthcare).

Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Knowledge of accessibility best practices and ability to continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
