Position Summary Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse II (LPN), the Nursing Technician delivers patient care utilizing the Relationship‑Based Care model. The Technician supports Shared Leadership, Evidence‑Based Practice, and standards of nursing excellence. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self, and colleagues, the Technician functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge and support patients by performing activities of daily living, operating patient care equipment, and promoting skin integrity and safety measures.

Document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including vital signs, nursing care provided, intake, and output.

Act as a patient/family advocate, providing comfort, assistance, and information, and provide feedback to the RN or LPN on patient care and condition as directed.

Demonstrate a commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, therapeutic environment.

Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior.

Identify recurring clinical practice and/or unit problems and participate in problem solving and resolution.

Collaborate with other staff to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.

Takes responsibility for continued professional growth and development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet such needs.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent.

Possession of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license from an accredited institution/school/program.

Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health – Health Care Work Registry.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR and other required unit‑specific certifications.

Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on‑the‑job training.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
