Salary:

$23.39/hr to $36.19/hr*; final rate determined by collective bargaining agreement, internal equity, candidate experience, and budget constraints. An individual is rarely offered a rate near the top of the full range.

Position Summary Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Technician delivers patient care utilizing the Relationship‑Based Care model as a framework. They provide care and take initiative to improve patient outcomes by supporting Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, and standards of nursing excellence. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and self, the Nursing Technician functions as an interdisciplinary team member who meets unit and organizational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge and support patients by performing activities of daily living, operating patient care equipment safely, and promoting skin integrity and safety measures.

Document patient information in the EHR (vital signs, nursing care provided, intake and output).

Act as a patient/family advocate, providing comfort, assistance, and information, and give feedback to RN or LPN as directed.

Demonstrate a commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a therapeutic environment.

Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals daily.

Identify recurring clinical practice issues and participate in problem solving and resolution.

Collaborate with other staff to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.

Take responsibility for continued professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet those needs.

Facilitate therapeutic, informational, or task‑oriented groups specific to the discipline of a nurse technician.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent.

Possession of a CNA license from an accredited institution, school, or program.

Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health – Health Care Work Registry.

Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit‑specific certifications.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.

Preferred Qualifications

One to two years of previous hospital experience.

Previous psychiatry experience is a plus.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or the willingness to obtain one once hired.
