Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nursing Technician delivers patient care utilizing the Relationship‑Based Care model. The Technician supports shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, and standards of nursing excellence, fostering therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge as assigned and support the patient by performing activities of daily living, operating patient care equipment safely, and promoting skin integrity and safety measures.
Document patient information in EHR (e.g., vital signs, nursing care provided, intake and output).
Act as a patient/family advocate by providing comfort, assistance, and information, and by giving feedback to RN or LPN on patient care and condition as directed.
Demonstrate a commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior.
Identify recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participate in problem solving and resolution.
Collaborate with other staff to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
Take responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet such needs.
Facilitate therapeutic, informational, or task‑oriented groups specific to the discipline of a nurse technician.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent.
Possession of a CNA license from an accredited institution/school/program.
Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health – Health Care Work Registry.
Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit‑specific certifications.
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
Preferred Qualifications
One to two years of previous hospital experience preferred.
Previous psychiatry experience a plus.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or willingness to obtain it once hired.
