Position Summary Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Technician provides patient care using the Relationship‑Based Care model. The role supports shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, and nursing excellence through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge; perform activities of daily living and support patient safety.
Document patient information in the EHR (e.g., vital signs, nursing care, intake and output).
Advocate for patients and families, providing comfort and information; communicate updates to RN or LPN.
Demonstrate commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, and a therapeutic environment.
Participate in organizational and departmental activities; support unit goals in daily behavior.
Identify recurring clinical practice issues and participate in problem‑solving and resolution.
Collaborate with staff to identify and promote positive learning experiences for staff and students.
Pursue professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
Facilitate therapeutic, informational, or task‑oriented groups specific to the nursing technician discipline.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent.
Valid CNA license from an accredited institution.
Active registration in the Illinois Department of Public Health Health Care Work Registry.
Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit‑specific certifications.
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
Preferred: 1–2 years of previous hospital experience; prior psychiatry experience is a plus.
Preferred: Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or willingness to obtain it once hired.
