Library Director – Library Center of the Ozarks

The Library Center of the Ozarks Board of Trustees seeks an innovative and proven community‑building leader to serve as Library Director at our newly established public library, located in Branson, Missouri. Since 2023 the district has transitioned a 90‑year‑old privately funded library into a publicly funded community library, and this role offers the unique opportunity to grow an emerging library system from the ground up, building the team, cultivating community relationships and shaping the future of library services in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead short‑ and long‑term planning, directing all library activities including finance, personnel, programs, services, collection development, facilities, equipment, government & community relations, and public relations.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget, oversee fiscal management and operational expenses.
  • Recruit, hire and develop staff; develop and recommend policies to the Board of Trustees.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Board, staff, community stakeholders, local government officials, the Missouri State Library, and professional library associations.
  • Prepare necessary federal and state reporting for library certification and compliance.
  • Oversee facilities maintenance, repair, and support future construction or renovation projects.
  • Promote the Library Center of the Ozarks as a community asset and build strategic partnerships.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA‑accredited program.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible public library experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of Missouri public library governance and funding structures is desirable.
  • Experience with governing board work, strategic planning and construction/renovation projects is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $90,000 – $115,000 per year, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Includes an excellent fringe benefits package.
