Pay Band: B15; Salary: $82,800-$105,000 annually

About the Center The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) is a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University that brings together biomedical researchers to develop novel treatments for cardiovascular disease, obesity, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease, and cancer. The center is led by Dr. Catherine Lynn Hedrick and Dr. Klaus Ley.

Job Summary The Scientific Communications Manager leads the strategy, development, and dissemination of internal and external communications for IMMCG. The role translates complex scientific research into clear, compelling content for faculty, staff, students, donors, policymakers, media, and the public, elevating IMMCG's reputation as a national leader in immunology research. The manager collaborates with other AU departments and acts as a subject‑matter expert for the center’s work and impact.

Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Public Engagement:

Lead IMMCG’s overall communications strategy, ensuring alignment with Augusta University’s brand and mission. Translate research findings into accessible press releases, news stories, videos, and multimedia. Oversee digital presence including website, newsletters, and social media to grow reach and engagement. Manage media relations and serve as liaison with AU Communications & Marketing and external journalists. Develop campaigns and storytelling initiatives that highlight IMMCG’s faculty, trainees, and discoveries.

Internal Communications for Faculty, Staff & Trainees:

Track, implement, and communicate IMMCG’s strategic plan, aligning key initiatives with institutional priorities and reporting progress to stakeholders. Support and promote faculty and trainee accomplishments, including award and fellowship nominations. Provide communications support for faculty and scientific meetings to foster collaboration. Support staff professional development through communications training and mentorship.

Research Funding & Grant Support:

Maintain updated biosketches, resource pages, and institutional content for proposals. Monitor NIH and foundation opportunities, including grants, fellowships, and career awards. Seek out non‑scientific grant opportunities to support community engagement and staff professional development. Manage and support administration of non‑scientific grant projects.

Networking & Representation:

Represent IMMCG at scientific meetings, ensuring consistent branding and visibility. Coordinate IMMCG presence at national, regional, local, and on‑campus conferences and manage communications around abstracts and presentations. Cultivate relationships with peer institutions, funders, and professional organizations.

Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university plus one year of related experience.

or Master’s degree plus a minimum of five years of related experience.

or Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of eight years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge:

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Skills:

Detail‑oriented with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Abilities:

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Day; Monday‑Friday (outside normal business hours may be required).

Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
