3D CAD Product Designer – Upholstered Seating Furniture Cover Design Specialist
Job Type:
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1 hour lunch)
Company Overview:
We are a leading upholstered seating furniture manufacturer serving the hospitality industry, creating high‑quality custom products for some of the world’s most recognized hotel and commercial brands. We are seeking a detail‑oriented 3D CAD Product Development Designer with strong aptitude in sewn cover pattern design, frame design and foam specification to support our design and production team in bringing concepts to life efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
Create sewn cover pattern pieces to fit upholstered furniture products utilizing Gerber Accu‑mark Pattern Design CAD Software.
Organize pieces into models with Gerber Accu‑mark and Lectra Valia software for nesting and marker making.
Create detailed visual sewing plan instructions for production team.
Collaborate with Product Development team to plan most effective methods for design to meet customer and manufacturing criteria.
Generate accurate BOMs (for material requirements and costs) cut lists, and technical drawings for shop floor and vendor use.
Assist in prototyping, NPD, and problem‑solving during sampling or production runs.
Understand and evaluate fabric orientation, matching requirements for best yield and overall outcome.
Read and measure existing frame drawings to create fabric pattern parts.
Create parts via pulling parts from existing 3D SolidWorks drawings for import into Accumark software.
Trial and evaluation of new cover parts and procedures.
Track and propel cover design throughout the development process with necessary urgency.
Update piece and model revisions thoroughly throughout the Lectra platform, communicating well with engineering regarding any labor or material adjustments.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proficiency in 3D CAD software
(Gerber Accumark, Lectra Valia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar).
Solid understanding of creating sewn fabric parts to fit upholstered frames effectively.
Strong understanding of upholstered frame design and
foam construction
(contouring, densities, lamination, etc.) for seating comfort.
Knowledge of how CAD translates to production—particularly in CNC cutting and upholstery.
Ability to visualize and resolve complex design and ergonomic challenges.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, production‑oriented environment.
Willingness to experiment with new and unconventional ideas for improvement.
Maintain a basic knowledge of how the cutting machines work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or certification in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or related field.
Experience in
hospitality or contract furniture manufacturing .
Familiarity with Gerber Paragon and Lectra Virga automated
CNC cutting machines, nesting software, and fabric/leather application .
Experience using tools like Gerber Accu‑mark,
Lectra Vailia, AlphaCAM, or AccuMark
is a plus.
