Transportation Technician 11 – Statewide Pipe Video Resource – State of Michigan
Join to apply for the Transportation Technician 11 role at the State of Michigan. This position is a key resource responsible for video inspection of underground drains, culverts, and sewers during the scoping, design, and construction phases of Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) construction projects statewide. The Technician also performs non‑destructive testing, compressive strength testing on rock cores, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct video inspections of undrains, culverts, and sewers during MDOT projects.
- Perform non‑destructive testing and compressive strength testing on rock cores.
- Maintain and service inspection equipment.
- Travel to field sites and perform regular inspections; must possess a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in concrete technology, civil technology, construction technology, surveying technology, construction management, mathematics, or computer science.
- Three years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Technician, including one year at the Transportation Technician E10 level.
- Alternate education and experience options:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an applied science with 16 semester hours in job‑specific coursework qualifies for the Transportation Technician E10 level.
- Completion of 60 semester credits, including 24 semester credits in related areas (e.g., structures, materials, soils, hydrology, surveying, design, bituminous, concrete, aggregate, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science, computer science, highway or traffic technology, construction management, engineering, mathematics).
- Four years of technician‑level experience in quality control inspections, drafting, materials and testing, surveying, or traffic.
- Current certification in bituminous (hot mix), concrete, density testing, or aggregate gradation combined with one year of related field experience.
- Current certification combined with three years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 9.
- Current certification combined with completion of 16 semester credits in relevant coursework.
- Valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements and Information

- MDOT does not participate in E‑Verify and does not sponsor visa applications.
- All newly hired state employees must complete a pre‑employment drug test and physical (if applicable); criminal and driving records will also be checked.
