under general supervision, provide support to various departments by transporting children, youth, and adults, and delivering documents and materials to designated destinations. There is currently one regular, permanent vacancy in the Central Support Unit of the Children and Family Services branch located in Belmont. This position shifts may vary and work early morning, nights, weekends, and holidays. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Transport children, youth, and adults to and from court hearings, appointments, parental/child visits, schools, locked institutions, placements, activity programs, public transportation, and related locations. Deliver documents and clients' personal articles. Maintain County vehicles, keep vehicles clean, fill vehicles with gas, check that vehicles are in safe and reliable operating condition, and report mechanical problems. Schedule ongoing trips, daily requests, and emergency requests as needed. May assist clients with the completion of simple forms. May assist departments with filing, answering telephones, xeroxing, and other basic office support tasks. Perform related duties as assigned. The

ideal candidate

will: Have twelve (12) months of work-related driving experience. Have direct experience working with at-risk or vulnerable children and families in a trauma responsive setting. Be able to perform activities such as lifting and transferring babies, children and car seats in and out of vehicles. Be able to follow instructions/directions with minimum supervision. Have the ability to use good judgment. Be able to make decisions independently. Possess excellent interpersonal skills. Enjoy working with a diverse client population and interact well with a wide variety of professional staff including social workers, case managers, conservators, therapists, foster parents, doctors and school staff. Have possession of a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificate is highly desirable. Possess a clean driving record. Must be able to pass the pre-employment physical exam due to heavy physical demands. NOTE:

The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies. Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent. Some positions require possession of a class B California driver license or equivalent. Must obtain certification in first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) within 6 months of appointment to the position. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is eighteen months experience working with children/families, or elderly, dependent and disabled adults, or 18 units of behavioral science courses. Safe driving procedures and practices, including traffic laws and regulations, detection of safety hazards in automobiles, and basic car maintenance; basic principles of human and child behavior and first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures and general health practices. Deal effectively with children and families of diverse racial, cultural and educational backgrounds; work well with frail elderly and dependent adults as well as with individuals suffering from various mental health problems; exercise sound judgment and take appropriate action in emergency or problem situations; plan and schedule transportation routes; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships and perform activities such as lifting and transferring children and car seats in and out of vehicles as well as assisting frail adults with transferring in and out of vehicles and in and out of wheelchairs.
