About RETTEW RETTEW is looking for an Entry-Level Structural Designer to join our Transportation Team. This is a succession role designed to help you build technical skills in bridge and structural design while learning directly from senior engineers. Over the next 2–3 years, you’ll take on progressively more independent work, preparing you to grow into a key contributor in our structural practice.

Work Environment : Hybrid schedule – three days a week in-office.

Locations : Berwyn, Lancaster, Lehigh Valley, Mechanicsburg, State College, Williamsport, or Pittsburgh, PA; Akron/Canton, OH; or Morgantown, WV

Position Summary / What You’ll Do As a Structural Designer, you’ll support the design and drafting of bridges, retaining walls, and related structural features. You’ll work closely with senior staff to develop design details, maintain drawing accuracy, and ensure compliance with codes and client requirements.

Responsibilities

Draft structural drawings (bridges, walls, structural members) using CAD/design software.

Develop preliminary details, materials, and reinforcement layouts.

Assist with structural calculation summaries and support documentation.

Prepare submittals and help respond to agency or client review comments.

Maintain quality and compliance of drafts with AASHTO and state/local standards.

Support revisions and updates throughout the design process.

Participate in internal peer reviews of structural drawing sets.

Qualifications Required:

Associate’s degree or technical certificate in structural drafting, CADD, or engineering; or equivalent experience.

Exposure to structural engineering or design (through coursework, internships, or work).

Basic competence in OpenRoads or Civil 3D, with interest in structural-specific drafting.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to track drawing revisions.

Strong communication skills with openness to feedback.

Preferred:

Familiarity with structural codes and standards (AASHTO, state DOTs).

Interest in learning analysis tools for structural design.
