Title
Mechanical Designer I
Overview Provides expertise and support in a variety of areas, including knowledge of mechanical drawing standards, sizing calculations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to prepare design deliverables under the supervision of a Mechanical Engineer.
Specific Duties
Proactively communicate and coordinate design work within the department, with other disciplines, and with external stakeholders such as clients and vendors.
Work with other designers and engineers as a team member on projects.
Participate in project and interdepartmental meetings to facilitate successful completion of projects and to meet customer expectations and needs.
Have awareness of project budgets and schedules.
Understand and apply concerns of safety, maintenance, accessibility, constructability, and coordination.
Learn company’s current design software.
Contribute to the production of typical project deliverables, such as individual views: flowsheets, general arrangement plans and sections, chute details, ducting, details, piping plans and sections, piping isometrics, vendor request for quote drawings, and 3D representations (isometrics, perspectives, photographs).
Establish and utilize an appropriate level of detail between modeling and drafting for both conceptual and detailed engineering stages.
Accurately incorporate information from mechanical and electrical equipment vendor drawings into final deliverables.
Accurately size, locate, dimension, and tag mechanical members and components on drawings.
Issue and record drawing submittals and revisions.
Check your design and drafting against red marks for errors, omissions, and adherence to company standards.
Understand layout requirements and routing criteria for mechanical chute, duct, and piping systems.
Continuously update and expand knowledge of the mechanical field as well as client processes and facilities.
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Design Drafting or equivalent education and experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical design drafting; heavy industrial experience preferred.
Experience producing models and documents from Revit, plus experience with AutoCAD and Office software.
Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate work with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills to manage time and resources efficiently; ability to multi‑task on several projects and adapt to changing scope and deadlines.
Commitment to maintaining the company’s professional image with timely, accurate, error‑free deliverables that meet or exceed client expectations.
Physical Demands And Work Environment Requires proficient computer skills with extended periods of six to eight hours seated, entering data with intense attention to detail. Occasional lifting of items up to 30 lb, such as computers, scanners, manuals, or files, may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
