Overview
Location: Richmond, VA Pay Rate: $30–$35/hr Job Type: Contract to Hire Responsibilities
Develop 2D and 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks and similar software Translate concepts, sketches, and specifications into manufacturable designs Collaborate with engineers to refine designs and ensure compliance with requirements, standards, and safety regulations Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) evaluations Support prototype development, testing, and validation of components Revise and update existing drawings and documentation as needed Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure feasibility and quality of designs Maintain accurate records, documentation, and version control of design files Support product safety certifications with NRTL partners (UL, CSA, IEC) Basic Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D software Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T Experience creating detailed assembly drawings and documentation Ability to interpret engineering specifications and apply design standards Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and creativity Effective communication and teamwork skills Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems Familiarity with sheet metal design, machining, plastics, or other manufacturing methods Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) or simulation tools Experience with UL, CSA, IEC electrical safety and EMC requirements related to power system design
