Overview
Insurance Authorization Coordinator role at Summit Spine and Joint Centers
This full-time position reports to the Insurance Manager and includes benefits. The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Obtain insurance authorizations for surgical procedures by using online applications or by contacting insurance companies directly.
- Address insurance-related patient concerns and questions.
- Maintain organized working files of all authorization requests and enter approved authorizations into the system.
- Coordinate and document all financial responsibilities related to patient deductibles, coinsurance, and copays owed at the time of service.
- Review the schedule in advance to determine pre-certification and prior authorization requirements.
- Be familiar with Medicare and Commercial Insurances.
- Adapt to a growing organization and navigate changes as needed.
- Perform other insurance duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Personable and detail-oriented as a representative of the practice with accurate information for callers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication for proper documentation of encounters.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an outpatient medical office, working in an Insurance Authorization or Pre-Authorization/Certification role.
- Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-10 coding, and medical pre-certification protocols.
- Authorization portal experience required.
- Experience with Pain Management Authorizations preferred.
- EMR/EHR experience required.
