Description
Part‑time faculty librarian duties include preparing bibliographies, research guides, providing reference service and instruction both in‑person and online, and assisting with collection development, library displays, and other library projects as needed. Part‑time librarians may be offered the opportunity to teach a section of Introduction to Library Research.

Department Profile
The library serves a diverse student population of over 20,000 and offers resources including 132,000 volumes, 100 periodical subscriptions, 50+ electronic databases, an Ex Libris Primo discovery system, and LibGuides. Faculty work collaboratively with departments across campus and the library staff includes four full‑time librarians and six classified staff, along with an active pool of part‑time librarians.
Job Duties
- Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in their disciplines and with best practices in teaching and learning.
- Check mailbox, voicemail, and e‑mail regularly.
- Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term.
- Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040 titled Student Records and Directory Information.
- Teach assigned classes as scheduled, notify leadership of any absence, and provide substitute arrangements as needed.
- Teach courses following the provided course outlines and record keeping requirements.
- Submit syllabus, enrollment, attendance, and academic progress reports by the published deadlines.
- Submit grades, supporting documentation, and attendance reports by the deadlines.
- Submit textbook and electronic resource requirements to ensure availability to all students and compliance with accessibility standards.
- Give final examinations at scheduled times or as approved by the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Maintain a safe learning environment and allow instructional staff to review assignments as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or equivalent.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
Supplemental Information
Physical Demands: Requires ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom locations, stand, bend, stoop, and reach to set up equipment and provide instruction. Requires hand‑eye coordination, the ability to write on a board or type, visual and auditory acuity, and the occasional lifting of objects less than 30 lbs.
Conditions of Employment
Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment. Classes may be scheduled during day, evening, and/or weekend times. Successful candidates must obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance, provide an original Social Security card, submit negative TB test results, and provide proof of California residency and eligibility to work in the United States. Faculty may be required to teach on‑campus or remotely as assigned.
