Position Concept The Data Architect is responsible for the backend components of the organization's data analytics environment, including standards, architecture, and design perspectives. They oversee the implementation and support of data movement and engineering processes that populate custom-built analytic data structures such as staging areas, data warehouses, and data marts. They also design these structures and ensure integration with vendor‑provided solutions.
Key responsibilities include technical oversight of data analysts and engineers, ensuring quality of deliverables, serving as a subject‑matter expert in SAP and Azure platforms, and ensuring data architecture supports applications and standards in data modeling, metadata management, integration, and master data management.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Define and evolve data architecture in alignment with enterprise standards, supporting use cases like reporting, OLAP, dashboards, data mining, and statistical analysis. Ensure scalability, security, reliability, and flexibility; determine deployment environment (cloud or on‑premises). (25%)
Establish best practices for source data analysis, ETL design and documentation, data federation across platforms, business rule placement with the Information Architect, ETL testing and release management, database‑level security, and data masking, anonymization, and tokenization. (15%)
Translate user requirements into data models and supporting applications, guiding data analysts, advising ETL developers, and designing logical and physical analytic structures. Deploy metadata tools and implement security for integration tools. Manage release practices and oversee operational environment. (15%)
Accountable for quality of data model and ETL deliverables; establish and manage QA functions including testing and peer reviews. (15%)
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to ETL developers and data analysts. (15%)
Serve as a technical SME providing consultation. (15%)
Qualifications Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information/Computer Science, Data/Information Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related field.
Licenses/Certifications Preferred: At least one professional certification in specific job‑related disciplines.
Direct Experience Required: 7 years of direct experience performing the duties & responsibilities of this position.
Hands‑on experience with SAP BW4/HANA, HANA Enterprise, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI, etc. Preferred: Gas or Electric utility experience; experience in large public or private‑sector organizations.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA)
Deep knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Azure suites (ETL, service bus, data quality tools) and understanding of SAP HANA, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI, etc.; ability to provide thought leadership regarding deployment.
Deep knowledge and experience establishing ETL application design standards and implementing them.
Preferred
Knowledge of Electric Grid Solutions such as ADMS, EMS, AMI/MDM, Intergraph GIS.
Knowledge of fundamentals of Data Science, AI (Machine Learning), Blockchain.
Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate positive impacts.
