Senior Technical Writer and Editor – Nevada National Security Sites Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to ensure U.S. security by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities, while acting as environmental stewards of the Site’s Cold War legacy. Our vision is to be the preferred user site for large-scale, high-hazard national security experimentation, with premier facilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. Position: Senior Technical Writer and Editor. Location: North Las Vegas, Nevada; occasional travel to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) may be required. Responsibilities Research and collect classified and unclassified background information and technical data needed to write technical reports; analyze and rewrite information clearly and concisely to meet authoritative organizational requirements. Develop an understanding of MSTS document control system and associated processes for managing documentation. Utilize existing company processes to develop and maintain a compliant ECSE document control system with proper configuration management. Collaborate with Nuclear Weapons Laboratory personnel on the development of highly technical installation instructions for the Scorpius accelerator and other complex diagnostic equipment. Coordinate with the MSTS Work Control Organization to streamline incorporation of Nuclear Weapons Laboratory procedures into MSTS work control documents. Collaborate with the Asset Manager and Systems Engineer to transfer project documentation from the Nuclear Weapons Laboratories into applicable MSTS systems. Interface routinely with Engineers and Scientists to produce clear and concise technical documents and operational checklists. Develop a compliant checklist process that meets a Nuclear Facility level of rigor. Utilize the company Technical Writing procedures and Writers Guides to produce compliant Standard Operating Procedures and Off‑Normal Procedures. Collaborate with personnel on technical procurements to produce clear and effective Statements of Work for complex fabrications or service agreements. Perform other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 5 years of professional level experience or equivalent training and experience. Highly skilled in computer software applications such as MS Office and Adobe Acrobat. In‑depth knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, composition, and style. Strong written and oral communication skills; comfortable communicating with all levels of MSTS personnel, National Laboratory partners, or NNSA oversight. Ability to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, multiple tasks, and changing priorities. Capable of communicating with highly technical personnel in a tactful, professional, and effective manner. Ability to learn and adapt to terminology in a highly scientific and engineering‑based environment. Ability to understand technical terminology related to nuclear facilities and experimental operations, and to interpret information from subject matter experts. Remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other miscellaneous details. Follow oral and written instruction to complete all assignments on time with minimal supervision. Utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports. Primary work location: Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada; occasional trips to the PULSE facility may be required. Work schedule: 4/10’s, Monday–Thursday (subject to change). Limited travel required. Pre‑placement physical examination, including drug screen, is required; MSTS maintains a substance‑abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Security Clearance & Background Screening Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship and a minimum of 18 years of age. Pre‑employment drug test and background review will include checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment will also undergo a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter; substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, or criminal activity may result in denial or termination. Successful completion of a counter‑intelligence evaluation, which may include a counter‑intelligence‑scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Compensation & Benefits Annual salary range: $78,832 – $118,248. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision; pension and 401(k); paid time off and 96 hours of paid holidays; relocation (if located more than 75 miles from work location); tuition assistance and reimbursement; and more.
