Purpose
The Drag is the professionally‑led, student‑powered audio production house of Texas Student Media (TSM) at the University of Texas at Austin. The Managing Director will spearhead the short‑ and long‑term strategic direction of The Drag, directing marketing, fundraising, revenue generation, audio content strategy, event planning, client partnerships, student supervision, and advisory support for 91.7 KVRX Radio.
Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day operations for The Drag, working with student staff and the Executive Producer to manage audio projects, approve new projects, own all client relationships, and ensure smooth operations.
Provide creative input and advisory support for existing podcasts; guide formation of new podcasts and collaborate with student groups on journalistic reporting, editing, producing, and sound design for long‑form nonfiction podcasts.
Direct fundraising and revenue strategy, including selling and managing podcast advertising, securing donors, running fundraising campaigns, and creating event‑based fundraising opportunities.
Oversee marketing for The Drag and individual podcasts, collaborating with the student marketing team on PR campaigns, social media accounts, website content, newsletters, and other outreach channels.
Reach out to news organizations, podcasters, and like‑minded individuals/organizations to form collaborative partnerships with The Drag.
Support the TSM Broadcast Adviser and KVRX Radio students as required, providing technical support, production assistance, meeting oversight, and other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in audio production. Proven track record managing content teams in a journalistic setting, advancing journalistic content from idea to completion, and expertise in marketing—particularly social media strategy. Experience in event creation, fundraising, revenue generation, and teaching journalistic skills. Passion for podcasting and a clear understanding of the industry.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Communications or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of media‑industry experience. Prior contracts, creative project bidding, budget management, and willingness to learn audio editing/production skills. Demonstrated background working with diverse college students.

$60,000
