Position Summary

The Fiber Design Technician I is responsible for designing fiber optic paths from the light source to the customer, utilizing both existing and new fiber infrastructure. This entry-level role supports the Outside Plant (OSP) design team and collaborates closely with splicers and field technicians to ensure accurate and efficient fiber deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Design fiber routes from central office or hub to customer premises using GIS and design tools. Collaborate with splicing teams to troubleshoot discrepancies between design documentation and field conditions. Verify handhole locations, splice points, and other field data to ensure design accuracy. Maintain accurate records and update databases with design and field verification data. Work in a production environment with strict deadlines and deliverables.

Required Skills

Ability to design fiber paths across various plant types (aerial, underground, new, and existing). Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve fiber path issues in collaboration with field teams. Effective communication and coordination with splicers and other technical staff. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Comfortable working under time constraints in a fast-paced environment.

Required Knowledge and Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience in Outside Plant (OSP) design. Familiarity with fiber design databases and documentation standards. Experience with GIS-based design tools and fiber management systems. Knowledge of Network Manager or similar platforms is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree or technical certification in telecommunications, engineering, or related field. Prior experience in telecom or utility industry design roles. Basic understanding of fiber optic technology and splicing practices.
