If you’re energized by the opportunity to assist in shaping public narratives and advancing policy priorities, AEM invites you to join our team as a Policy Communications Manager.
In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Public Affairs and other advocacy team members to develop and execute integrated communications strategies that advance AEM’s policy agenda. You’ll craft compelling content, spearhead media opportunities, and develop grassroots campaigns. Your work will ensure that AEM’s advocacy communications are timely, impactful, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Director of Public Affairs to implement strategic communications and public affairs campaigns, including content development for earned, owned, and paid media.
Serve as one of the day-to-day contacts for reporters on behalf of the association, facilitating interviews with AEM leadership and member company executives, planning media events, and proactively building relationships with state, national, and Beltway media.
Develop and execute grassroots communications programs to raise awareness and drive engagement around AEM’s policy priorities.
Spearhead the development and distribution of AEM’s monthly advocacy newsletters, the Advocacy Report and Canadian Advocate.
Partner with cross-functional teams to assist in executing advocacy campaigns that amplify AEM’s policy priorities in state capitals, D.C., and Ottawa.
Help monitor policy developments and provide input to inform messaging and advocacy efforts.
Assist managing public affairs, digital, and creative agencies to support strategic communication initiatives.
Track and report on campaign effectiveness using metrics and analytics.
Travel may be required up to 10 times annually.
What You Bring A successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 4–6 years of experience in media relations and digital communications within a public relations or public affairs agency, trade association, corporation, or office of an elected official.
Demonstrated track record of securing high-profile media coverage and implementing integrated public affairs campaigns.
Experience managing social media channels for a trade association or elected official, with proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and a collaborative mindset.
