Purpose The Communications Officer for the University of Texas Libraries oversees internal and external communications, marketing, publications, and public relations for UT Libraries ensuring cohesive and effective strategies that promote the mission and goals of the Libraries. This position is part of the Senior Vice Provost’s Operations Team, which supports communications, events, finance, human resources, and operations of the SVP portfolio.

Responsibilities

Strategy : Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan. Coordinate UT Libraries' communication strategy for internal, campus, and external constituencies.

External Communications : Plan, develop, and produce content for various UT Libraries communications channels, including social media, blogs, newsletters, and the annual report. Oversee the development, production, and distribution of print and digital publications.

Internal Communications : Assist with planning, creation, and distribution of UT Libraries' internal communications, including for the Senior Vice Provost.

Graphic and Digital Design : Create graphic design projects and elements, including concept, direction, visualization, production, delivery of digital and print: posters, flyers, invitations, brochures, social media, and campaign components. Develop, produce, and distribute print and digital publications.

Visual Projects : Coordinate photographic/video services and manage contract media development for various libraries communications, marketing, and documentary requirements.

Liaison and Relationship Management : Serve as communications liaison for media inquiries, special projects, and various publicity. Manage external use of UT Libraries spaces for film and photography projects. Develop and cultivate relationships with representatives from media, community, professional organizations, and campus partners. Serve as liaison to the University Communications office and to the Provost’s Communications Group. Serve on relevant strategic committees.

Other related functions as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field with transferrable skills.

At least five years professional experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing publications, or related field.

At least five years of experience in content creation and strategy. (Experience can be concurrent with above requirements.)

Excellent communication skills, with strengths in writing for distinct and changing audiences.

Experience meeting deadlines and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal skills with strengths in connecting and collaborating with different stakeholders and audiences.

Experience designing, writing, and producing digital and print materials.

Ability to work independently with little oversight.

Strong editing and proofreading skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven or more years of professional experience.

Experience working in higher education.

Robust graphic design experience.

Photography and/or videography experience.

Experience engaging with media inquiries.

Salary Range $75,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Typical library conditions.

Work Shift Monday – Friday, between the hours of 7am and 6pm as arranged with manager. Flexible work arrangement with up to two days remote available after initial onboarding. Weekend and evening hours occasionally required.
